FOW Study Tour to Helsinki
First Week in June 2026
We are pleased to confirm that the 2026 Summer FOW tour will be to Helsinki, Finland. This location would have featured in the 2020 tour which had to be cancelled because of Covid so we are delighted to be able to visit this vibrant city next year. We are looking at a 5 night tour, probably from Monday 1st June to Saturday 6th June.
Our tour will be led by ex-Whitworth curator Claire Gould. Claire is an independent curator who currently works at Martin Asbeak Gallery in Copenhagen. She has worked in Helsinki at the Helsinki Art Museum (HAM), as well as other galleries in Scandinavia and in Berlin at the Hamburger Bahnhof Museum (visited by the Friends during our 2023 tour), and she has an in-depth knowledge of the art scene in Helsinki and beyond. The tour will include all the major art galleries and institutions -
Helsinki Art Museum (HAM) - which recently housed the Helsinki Biennial
Kiasma - the contemporary art museum
Amos Rex - the largest private art museum in Helsinki
Helsinki Taidehalli
Ateneum Art Museum - the National Gallery of Finland
EMMA Museum of Modern Art (in nearby Espoo)
National Museum of Photography
Oodi Library (an amazing new library which reflects the vibrant Finnish culture)
Makasiini Contemporary (their new art space in Helsinki)
It will also include visits to several private collections and artists studios, recommended by Claire Gould based on her intimate knowledge of the Helsinki art scene.
Any member of the Friends of the Whitworth who is interested in the tour can request an in-depth and fully costed itinerary, when it is available, by contacting me at the following e-mail address.
Regards,
Mike Tierney
