Berlin: Art Collecting and Collections - Now Open for Bookings
Bookings are now being taken for this 5 night tour to Berlin, with a day in nearby Potsdam. The tour will be led by German-born local guide and art historian, Tim Schmutzler. An outline itinerary is as follows -
Day 1 - Monday 19th June
Arrive Berlin 11.20 on Ryanair flight. Brief orientation visit followed by a tour of the Daniel Libeskind designed Jewish Museum then a visit to the Reichstag building. There will be a welcome dinner in the evening.
Day 2 - Tuesday 20th June
Visit to the Kulturforum for guided tours of the Gemäldgalerie (masterpieces from 13th to 18th century) and the Mies van der Rohe designed Neue Nationalgalerie of modern and contemporary art. Free time for exploring other galleries at the Kulturforum.
Day 3 - Wednesday 21st June
Visit to ‘Museum Island’ for guided visits to the Pergamon Museum and Egypt Museum (including the spectacular Ishtar Gate) in the morning and the Uzbekistan exhibition at the James Simon Gallery in the afternoon. Free time to explore other galleries on Museum Island.
Day 4 - Thursday 22nd June
Full day excursion to nearby historic garden city of Potsdam and the Sanssouci Palace by local train. Exploring the town of Potsdam and visit the Neuer Garten and its Palace and Garden Follies.
Day 5 - Friday 23rd June
Travel by public transport to The Sampling Scarf-Gerstenberg (surrealist and fantastic art) and the Käthe Kollwitz Museum. There will be guided tours at both museums. Free time in the afternoon to visit the nearby Charlottenburg Palace and Park, the Brücke Museum, the Berlinische Galerie or the Hamburger Bahnhof gallery of contemporary art in a former railway station in central Berlin. There will be a farewell dinner in the evening.
Day 6 - Saturday 24th June
Free time in the morning before taking the 17.15 Ryanair flight back to Manchester -, arriving 18.15.
The cost per person is £1740, which includes round-trip airfare from Manchester to Berlin, five nights hotel accommodation (Single Room Supplement is £440 per person), the organised tours and a 5 day Berlin Welcome Card which offers free public transport on all of Berlin’s public transport system and reduced admission to some cultural and other institutions.
