Introducing Anne Mackinnon
Mince pies and Christmas cards in September? Although it is ridiculously early to start thinking about Christmas, we find we have to plan our Christmas card sales - which help us to raise much needed money for the Whitworth Gallery - so that we are in line with other charities.
Readers who are Friends of the Whitworth will recently have received, as a gift, a set of cards to share with their own friends, and many have been in touch to buy more! All three designs are exclusive to us and show scenes of the Gallery and the surrounding Park.
We thought you might like to hear more about the talented artists, both Friends of the Whitworth, who designed the cards for us this year, see the cards they designed and some of their other work. So let's introduce, in this article, Anne Mackinnon.
Anne writes:
My work has been inspired by my travels round the world and the cities, landscapes and gardens that I have visited. My own garden has been a labour of love for the past 30 years and a great source of inspiration for my painting.
I paint in watercolour and mixed media and many of my paintings are reproduced as limited edition giclee prints and greeting cards. I have exhibited in London, Manchester, Amsterdam and New York.
I have studios in Cumbria and Manchester. My studio in Cumbria is set in the middle of magnificent countryside with an endless source of inspiration just outside the door. I am fascinated by the patterns, shapes and repetition to be found in the natural world and I love to work outside capturing the changing moods, colour and light in these dramatic landscapes.
I am secretary of the Friends of the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester and a Director of Farfield Mill Arts and Heritage Centre. You can also see my work on my website at www.annemackinnon.com
