Nova Brass

Based in Manchester, Nova Brass Quartet comprises musicians studying at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). They perform regular concerts both at RNCM and across the North West. All four players are former members of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and were finalists in the 2025 Philip Jones Brass Prize. They also appeared on ITV’s Christmas Eve carols broadcast.
Harry Porthouse, cornet, is a fourth year student from South Wales. He is the principal cornet player with the Leyland Band and also performs with Brass Band Oberland (Switzerland) and St Kilda Brass Band (NZ).
Lewis Barton, cornet, is a fourth year trumpet student from Wigan. He enjoys playing in both orchestras and brass bands, being the former principal cornet of the Leyland Band. He has worked with orchestras such as the Hallé and BBC Philharmonic Orchestras through RNCM’s experience schemes.
Alice Clarke, a third year tenor horn student from Manchester, and Angus Ritchie, a third year euphonium student from Glasgow, both play with the Brighouse and Rastrick band. Both were selected to represent England and Scotland respectively at the European Youth Brass Band in Stavanger, Norway in 2025.
The quartet performs a wide range of repertoire. From brand new commissions to more traditional programmes, we have music to suit all tastes.
