Seats in the Northwest is a woodwind quintet founded in Autumn 2024 at the Royal Northern College of Music. Formed by students hailing from all over the world, this ensemble brings together musicians who found common ground in Manchester through their shared passion for chamber music. The group’s name reflects both the seating position of their instruments, in the northwest section of the orchestra, and their home in Manchester.

Known for their adventurous spirit and willingness to embrace musical challenges, Seats in the Northwest has already made a strong impression, becoming finalists in the Fewkes Woodwind Chamber Prize with their performance of Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles. Their repertoire continues to grow, spanning wind quintet classics, contemporary works, and historically informed performances, all approached with curiosity and commitment.
