Our zoom art talks give an opportunity to explore other wonderful art forms and we are delighted to invite Alison Kinnaird, an artist working in glass, to talk to about her work combining old methods with modern technology to create contemporary and mesmerising works of glass art.
Wheel engraving is an ancient technique, practised for more than 2000 years. Alison loves to work with tradition and she uses the old methods of working and combines these with modern technology, including LED lighting, and creates a story with contemporary relevance, while maintaining the very special character and unique qualities of glass. The title image 'Queen Bee' shows a classic example of wheel engraving.
She has work in many public and private collections throughout the world including the V&A Museum, Corning Museum of Glass NY and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
