Tom Chapman guitar
Born into a musical family in West Yorkshire, Tom developed a passion for music at an early age. Inspired by his parents, who both regularly played in a swing band, he began playing the classical guitar at the age of seven followed by the electric guitar at 10 and then drums and bass at the age of 11. Tom’s musical influences extend from classical through to jazz, swing and contemporary music.
Tom’s love of the classical guitar was a constant throughout his childhood and during his last years at school he targeted and subsequently won a coveted place at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, studying under Craig Ogden. During his time at college Tom has flourished as a soloist and chamber musician, taking every opportunity to perform in both contexts.
A truly multi-talented musician, Tom has continued to work in bands as a bassist, drummer and electric guitarist while continuing to achieve extremely highly at the RNCM. His solo recital repertoire is diverse and testament to Tom’s own breadth of interest and influence. Tom’s future plans include further study and ultimately a portfolio career of performing, teaching and composing across a range of styles and genres.
