The ‘Four Seasons Recomposed’ by Max Richter realised in 2012 is a modern take on the work of Antonio Vivaldi. Richter, although he disregards 75% of the original work, always considered the ‘musical DNA’ of Vivaldi as he was reworking the material. The piece is often heard in TV programmes such as ‘Bridgerton’.
Four seasons Recomposed by Max Richter:
Spring: 9:00
Summer: 13:10
Autumn: 10:40
Winter: 10:30
Total length (approx): 43 mins
The piece will be performed by an ensemble of RNCM students, solo violin played by Beth McAlister. The ensemble is made up of female string players, it is believed that this will be the first all-female performance of the piece. At the time of Vivaldi’s work, women would have been encouraged to experience the work from the perspective of an audience member and only to play music behind closed door - it is important nowadays that we recognise that everyone should be given the opportunity to express themselves.
As part of the undergraduate degree program at the RNCM, students are required to design and carry out a creative project. Beth has decided for her project to put on a concert performing this piece. She has always loved the Four Seasons by Vivaldi and is encouraging herself to explore contemporary music, so this piece was the perfect mix!
Performing this music at the Whitworth Art Gallery is a perfect location to perform this piece as we are immersed in nature both musically and through the surroundings of the park and we are excited to share the music with you!
