Nexus Duo
The Nexus Duo is an emerging ensemble comprising Andrew Birse (violin) and Chloe Randall (cello) who have played chamber music together in various guises since 2016. Starting as a piano quintet, then a piano trio, they decided to seek out works for violin and cello and have been performing as a string duo ever since. In various venues from concert halls to more unorthodox environments they present imaginative programmes, often including folk music from their homes in Scotland as well as baroque, late romantic, 20th century and contemporary works.

Chameleon Wind Quartet
Chameleon is a multi-instrumental, award-winning, woodwind quartet that was formed at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2016. All members double on at least one other instrument, meaning the group has a unique sound and set-up and the musicians often change instruments mid piece. They are passionate about creating innovative music and are proud to arrange all their repertoire themselves. They are Live Music Now artists and June Emerson Launchpad prize winners. They have won several competitions including the Trevor Wye woodwind competition (2017) and Brodsky Prize (2018) and were awarded the audience prize and highly commended for the Chris Rowland Chamber Music Prize (2017).

Apex Brass
Apex Brass is a brass quintet formed of talented musicians based in Manchester. All studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, the group consists of Ben Jarvis and Tom Watts on Trumpet, Robert Mehlig on French Horn, Charlotte Horsfield on Trombone and Harry Beach on Tuba. Apex came together at the start of October 2018, and made their maiden performance in the RNCM’s Phillip Jones Brass Ensemble Competition in June. Despite stiff competition, Apex won the contest, and therefore gained entry to the Christopher Rowland Ensemble of the Year Award, a celebration of the best chamber ensembles at the college. Described as ‘stylish and convincing… showing depth, vitality and ensemble character’ at the Christopher Rowland Award Competition, Apex has taken great strides in less than a year. They hope to expand their repertoire further, and look forward to sharing their passion for chamber music at this Sunday Concert at the Whitworth.
