We are organising a 5-day trip to South Wales in March 2019 travelling by Private Coach from Manchester and we will be accompanied by experienced Guide, Jane Brand.
Our itinerary has been planned to include and take advantage of our time when travelling to / from and whilst in South Wales and we aim to include the following interesting and especially varied visits:
- Abbey-Cym-Hir Hall – one of Wales’ most outstanding Victorian homes. A Grade II listed property with magnificent architecture, rooms bursting with interior designs and extensive antique & vintage collections
- Llandaff Castle– the ruined residence of the bishops of Llandaff built between 1265 and 1287. The twin-towered gatehouse is one of the few remaining structures.
- Cardiff Castle – a medieval castle and Victorian Gothic revival mansion. The original motte and bailey castle was built in the late 11th century by Norman invaders on top of a 3rd century Roman fort.
- Castell Coch – a 19th century Gothic Revival castle built above the village of Tongwynlais in South Wales described as ‘one of the greatest Victorian triumphs of architectural composition’.
- National Museum Cardiff - founded in 1905 this museum & art gallery houses Wales’s national art, natural history and geology collections, as well as major touring temporary exhibitions.
- St Fagans National Museum – standing in the grounds of the magnificent St Fagans Castle this open-air museum chronicles the historical lifestyle, culture, and architecture of the Welsh people.
- Swansea - Glynn Vivian Art Gallery– a significant Collection covering a broad spectrum of the visuals arts from old masters to contemporary artists, with an international collection of porcelain and Swansea china.
- The National Botanic Garden of Wales – this garden has the perfect blend of both modern and historic attractions. An inspiring range of themed gardens, the world’s largest single-span glasshouse, tropical Butterfly House and a national nature reserve, all set in a Regency landscape
- Kilbeck Church (the Parish Church of St Mary & St David) –built in about 1140 this church has survived remarkably intact and it is home to the finest collection of Romanesque sculpture in England.
- Upton Cressett Hall, Shropshire – a privately owned Elizabethan House set in 10 acres of moated topiary and rose gardens with a spectacular 15th century Great Hall&huge twisted 16th century chimneys.
