We are organising a 5-day trip to Norfolk in October 2018 traveling by Private Coach from Manchester and we will be accompanied by experienced Guide, Jane Brand.
Our itinerary has been planned to include and take advantage of our time when traveling to / from and whist in Norfolk and we aim to include the following interesting and especially varied visits:
- Sandringham - the much-loved country retreat of Her Majesty the Queen, Sandringham is set in 24 hectares of stunning gardens & has been the private home of four generations of British monarchs since 1862
- Hungate Centre for Medieval Art – based in St Peter Hungate church the centre aims to promote both the medieval art visible in Norfolk and the contemporary use of medieval art, approaches & buildings
- Norwich Castle - a medieval royal fortification built by the Normans as a Royal Palace 900 years ago. Now a museum and art gallery, it is home to outstanding collections of fine art, archeology & natural history
- Sainsbury Centre for Visual Art - inspirational public art museum and sculpture garden. Works by Henry Moore & Modern art donated by Lord and Lady Sainsbury, including works by Pablo Picasso&Francis Bacon
- St Faith’s Church, Horsham – 13th century church with a rood screen dated 1528 & adorned with 12 panels depicting saints, an elaborate Jacobean font cover & a pulpit with painted panels
- St Michael & All Angels Church, Barton Turf – listed Grade I church best known for its surviving paintings & the twelve panels of its late-Gothic rood screen
- St Helen’s Church, Ranworth–an ancient building with remarkable treasures including an Antiphoner (a beautiful illuminated service book) &a painted medieval screen which is considered the best in the country
- Kirstead Hall Grade I listed Elizabethan manor house circa 1560. One wing of the house is used by the owners as an antique ferniture restoration business.
- St Faith’s Church, Witchingham - a redundant Anglican church standing in an isolated location which is well known for its great treasure of wall paintings dating form towards the middle of the 14th century
- Binham Priory – the most complete and impressive monastic ruins in Norfolk. This Benedictine priory was founded in 1091 by Peter des Valoines, a nephew of William the Conqueror
- Holkham Hall - this elegant 18th century mansion is rich in history; architecture and wildlife &it is one of England's finest examples of the Palladian revival style of architecture
- Ely Cathedral – with origins dating back to AD 672 when St Etheldreda built an abbey church the present building dates back to 1083, and cathedral status was granted in 1109
- Norwich Cathedral –a magnificent Romanesque Cathedral with a large cloister having over 1,000 bosses including several hundred carved and ornately painted ones
