Screen Printing in the Clore Studio
We have talented artists in our midst and 11 of them, led by One69a’s Sally Gilford, met in the Clore Studio recently, put on their aprons, and began to practice and demonstrate their skills.
Three hours late we were presented with a stunning collection of designs, both abstract and figurative. Some of our screen printers were inspired by the work of Barbara Brown, one of the stars of the Heal’s print catalogue in the 1960s, which is currently on display at the Whitworth (It’s on till January 2018, so still time to visit, details here: http://www.whitworth.manchester.ac.uk/whats-on/exhibitions/currentexhibitions/barbarabrown/) Others branched out on their own. Whatever their inspiration, though, our printers were justifiably pleased with their results, and many were keen to try their hand again.
In a new venture for the Friends of the Whitworth, we hope to be able to provide a series of hands-on workshops over the coming months, to complement our well established programme of tours and visits. Look out for them in our programme and on our website. Next time it could be your turn to demonstrate your skills.
