A Chinese Brush Painting Workshop
In this workshop, participants will learn about the materials used in Chinese art, Chinese composition and painting layout, the use of oriental tools, and practise control of the brush to paint various strokes. Participants will work with one of the chosen motifs to create a unique work using the Chinese painting method – Freestyle (xieyi) on absorbent paper.
Tutor: Katherine Hsuan 宣嘉欣
Growing up in Hong Kong and spending some time in the UK, Katherine Hsuan has been inspired by art from both east and west. Throughout the years, she has developed her contemporary lingnan style with focus on modern layout, detailed brushwork and colourfully rendered background to reflect this appreciation for natural beauty. Using traditional Chinese brush painting technique she creates artworks in different media, including xuen paper, silk and painting board.
