Manchester Town Hall
Sunday 07 January 2018
Manchester Town Hall will close from mid January 2018 for six years. Don’t miss this last chance to explore behind-the-scenes, in one of the finest municipal buildings in Britain. This tour offers the chance to visit parts of the Grade I listed Town Hall, which are not normally accessible to the public, to gain a deeper understanding of the building’s rich history and see first-hand why the major project is needed to restore and protect it for future generations.
Some of the elements of the building in need of urgent repair will be revealed and visitors will find out more about the very complex, often specialist work which is required to safeguard the future of the building. The Town Hall is 140 years old this year and, while it remains structurally sound, it is showing its age. Major work is required for the 1870s building to be brought up to modern access and safety standards, while ensuring that its many heritage features are sensitively preserved.
